Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United have been confirmed, subject to several conditions. The mercurial 36-year-old was expected to seal a shock move to rivals Manchester city, until midday Friday when United emerged as the favourites to secure his signature in a remarkable turn of events.
As confirmed on Friday: “Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club have reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Christiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, Visa and medical.”
The club added: ” Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Christiano back at Manchester.”
Express Sport takes a look at the shirt numbers Ronaldo could pick from now he’s back at United.
NO 12
Ronaldo has famously worn no 7 mad no 9 throughout his career, but those shirts are currently occupied by Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial at the club.
The five-time Ballon d’OR winner may be forced to settle for a different number as a result, with number 12 the lowest available option.
It was previously occupied by Chris Smalling before his move to Roma in the summer of 2019, while the Neville brothers and Paul Scholes have also donned the shirt in in previous years.
There was speculations that Raphael Varane could wear the number 12 shirt upon his arrival from Real Madrid earlier this month, but the Frenchman ultimately opted for the no 19 shirt instead.
