Man City reported to be in ‘pole position’ to sign Haaland next summer

Manchester City are reportedly in ‘pole position’ to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund next summer.

Haaland is set to be the most sought-after talent in world football next summer as the forward’s release clause at Dortmund becomes active, a whole host of Europe’s leading clubs interested in triggering the €75m fee in 2022.

Bild, as per SportWitness, are reporting that Manchester City now lead the chase for the Norwegian, having failed in their attempts to sign a centre-forward this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s side were frustrated in their attempts to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, whilst reported interest in Cristiano Ronaldo also failed to materialise as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner rejoined Manchester United.

City remain in the hunt for a new number nine following Sergio Aguero’s departure to Barcelona and could now be the front runners in the race for Haaland.

Guardiola is now understood to be contemplating whether to pursue Haaland or renew the club’s interest in Kane next summer, with the latter set to be more attainable as he enters the final two seasons of his contract at Spurs.

Haaland is regarded as arguably the most exciting young talent in world football at present with the 21-year-old having scored 63 goals in 64 games for Dortmund since signing from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

In spite of their capture of Ronaldo, City are likely to face competition from Manchester United, while Real Madrid and Barcelona are also believe to be interested.
