Liverpool confident Elliott will play again this season after youngster undergoes surgery

Liverpool are confident that Harvey Elliott will play again this season after the youngster underwent a successful operation on the serious ankle injury he sustained at Leeds.

Elliott was stretchered off during Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Leeds on Sunday after suffering a fracture dislocation of the left ankle during the second half of the Reds’ victory at Elland Road.

The incident was a horrible moment for the teenager who has impressed since breaking into Jurgen Klopp’s side over the opening weeks of the Premier League season, though the club’s medical staff have provided a positive update on Elliott’s condition.

Whilst no timescale has been placed on his return, there is an expectation that the 18-year-old will return to action before the end of the current season.

“Harvey sustained a fracture dislocation of his left ankle during the game,” club doctor, Dr Jim Moxon told Liverpoolfc.com.

“We were able to reduce the dislocation immediately on the pitch and Harvey had surgery today to repair the fracture and ligaments damaged in the incident. The operation was a success so his comeback starts now.

“We won’t put pressure on him by setting a specific timeframe beyond being able to say with confidence we expect him to feature again later in the season following our rehab programme.”
