Man Utd linked Goretzka pens new Bayern Munich contract

Bayern Munich have confirmed that Leon Goretzka has signed a new five year deal to keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2026.

The midfielder had entered the final year of his deal with the Bavarian club, and was linked with a potential free transfer to Manchester United next summer, the Old Trafford outfit claimed to have made been monitoring the Germany international.

The Red Devils are known to be keen on bolstering their midfield next summer, with Declan Rice thought to be their primary target, while there are still doubts over the future of Paul Pogba who is also approaching the expiry of his deal.

United’s potential interest, however, is often used as a bargaining chip for players and their agents to push along contract talks, and this may well be another case of that, with Bayern confirming the former Schalke midfielder has penned a new long-term deal.

Speaking to the club website, the 26-year-old expressed his desire to keep winning titles with Bayern, the midfielder having won three Bundesliga’s, two DFB Pokal’s and the Champions League.

“We’ve won everything there is to win over the past three years,” Goretzka said. “But what would be even better than winning titles is confirming and repeating these successes. We want to build on this in the coming years.

“The team, the club and the environment are not just highly professional, but also familiar. This mixture is one of the things that guarantees success at this club.

“I’m very happy to be extending my contract until 2026.”
