Liverpool boss Klopp gives Salah contract and Firmino fitness update

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on Mohamed Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool, and the fitness of Roberto Firmino.

Liverpool have worked through the summer on securing new contracts for key personnel, with the focus having now shifted to Salah’s future after the Egyptian entered the final two seasons of his deal at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Andy Robertson, Alisson, Jordan Henderson, and Virgil van Dijk have all signed new deal, but there has been no public progress on negotiations with Salah to date.

The 29-year-old has been a central figure to the Reds’ recent successes and has scored four goals from just five appearances in all competitions so far this season, though Klopp was coy when discussing a potential new contract ahead of this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace.

“There’s nothing to say, especially from me, I am not involved.,” said Klopp at his pre-match press conference.

“Obviously I am interested in how sharp he looks. He’s spot on, really good, but there’s nothing else to say.”

Klopp also spoke on the fitness of Roberto Firmino, who remains sidelined at present and will miss tomorrow’s clash with the Eagles with a hamstring injury.

“He’s not ready,” said the Reds manager. “Bobby won’t start training with the team until some time next week. Then we will have to wait and see.”
