Highly-rated Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma has declared himself the best midfielder in the Premier League, amid continued speculation over his future.
The 25-year-old has been a revelation since his move to the Amex from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2018, going on to catch the eye with his combative and effective midfield displays as a key part of Graham Potter’s side.
The Mali international was particularly impressive last term as he featured 36 times in the Premier League for the Seagulls, with his stellar showings leading to speculation that he could well secure a high profile move over the summer.
There had been suggestion that the midfielder could well make the switch to Anfield as a replacement for the departed Gini Wijnaldum, albeit with Liverpool going on to make just one summer signing in the form of defender Ibrahima Konate.
One other heavily rumoured destination has been that of Manchester United, with the club’s supporters seemingly imploring the Red Devils hierarchy to bring the Brighton star to Old Trafford, in order to solve their defensive midfield conundrum.
As it is, the player will remain at his current club until January at least, although that has not stopped the transfer rumour mill from spinning, with the player appearing to put himself in the limelight by suggesting that he is the best midfielder in the top-flight.
“I don’t want to be arrogant, but it’s me because in my head I am working to be the best,” Bissouma told BBC’s Football Focus.
“So I cannot say another name, I know in the Premier League there are so many good midfielders, but for me, it’s me because that gives me the confidence and the energy to work hard to show people I am here and I am Bissouma.
“I just want to be focused on football, to play in every game, every week to be good, to help my team win and the rest we will see.”
