James Rodriguez jets to Qatar as he looks to seal Everton exit

James Rodriguez is in Qatar to hold talks with an unnamed club as the midfielder looks to seal an exit from Everton.

Rodriguez has fallen out of favour at Everton following the arrival of Rafael Benitez as manager, with the Colombia international having been informed he is free to leave the club.

The 30-year-old signed for the Toffees from Real Madrid last summer and enjoyed a bright start to his career on Merseyside, but his performances dipped over the second half of the campaign and the departure of Carlo Ancelotti has spelled the end for his time at Goodison Park.

Everton had hoped to use the midfielder in part-exchange for Porto’s Luis Diaz during the summer transfer window, though Rodriguez was unable to come to an agreement over a return to the Portuguese side.

Paul Joyce, of the Times, has now confirmed Rodriguez has flown to Qatar to discuss a potential move away from Everton, who are keen to remove his lucrative contract from their wage bill.

Rodriguez’s deal with Everton is set to expire next summer and the star was linked with the likes of AC Milan and Istanbul Basaksehir during the summer, though no agreement was found with either club.
