Chelsea failed with an £85m summer bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos.
The west London side were interested in signing a new centre-back during the summer transfer window and are understood to have approached PSG over a deal for the Brazilian international, though both the player and club rejected the approach.
Thomas Tuchel worked with Marquinhos during his time at the Parc des Princes and French publication RMC Sport have claimed that the German was keen bring the 27-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
The deal would have reunited Marquinhos with both Tuchel and former defensive partner Thiago Silva, who signed for Chelsea on a free transfer from PSG in 2020.
Marquinhos rejected the opportunity to move to the Premier League in favour of staying with PSG, who enjoyed a notable summer of recruitment that included the arrivals of Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum in the French capital.
Chelsea also made an approach to sign Jules Kounde from Sevila, though saw a deal fail to materialise after the Spanish side upped their initial asking price for the France international.
