Jesse Lingard is among four players Manchester United want to tie down to new contracts, as the midfielder approaches the end of his current deal.
Lingard will be a free agent next summer unless terms over a new deal can be agreed with the Red Devils, with talks having began over a potential new contract for the England international.
The 28-year-old has been linked with an exit after spending the second half of last season on loan at West Ham, who were interested in a permanent deal for the midfielder during the summer following his impressive performances at the London Stadium.
Lingard has since returned to form part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad and scored his first goal of the season to secure a 2-1 win at West Ham on Sunday.
The Daily Star are reporting that talks are ‘underway’ between the club and the player’s representatives, though an opening proposal has already been rejected.
Lingard will want to assess his role in Solskjaer’s squad this season before committing to a new contract, having been frozen out over the first half of the 2020/21 campaign.
United are also keen to secure new deals for Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba, the latter another name out of contract next summer and the France international has been linked with both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
