Manchester United have been named as a ‘more than credible’ destination for in-demand AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.
Kessie is attracting interest from Europe’s elite after entering the final season of his contract at the San Siro, with the midfielder having been linked with a free transfer move to the Premier League as the Red Devils look to bolster their options.
United are in the market for midfield reinforcements with Paul Pogba’s future uncertain, the France international another player who will be available as a free agent in 2022 at present.
Gazetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, are reporting that Kessie has emerged as a target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and that a move to Manchester is a ‘more than credible’ option for the Ivory Coast international, who has previously admitted that Old Trafford is a ‘dream’ destination.
Milan are believed to have been preparing for his potential exit with the signings of Yacine Adli and Tiemoué Bakayoko, the club having so far failed to meet Kessie’s demands for a significant increase to his €2.2m-per-year salary.
Kessie is understood to want around €8m per season to renew at the San Siro, which could allow those monitoring his situation to swoop with both Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool also linked – though the reports says both sides need to ‘resolve some internal issues’ before making a move.
United’s move to Kessie could reportedly happen as early as the January transfer window, either for a cut-price fee or the agreement of a pre-contract ahead of a summer move.
