Rashford relishing playing with Ronaldo as he offers an update on his injury recovery

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed he is relishing playing with Cristiano Ronaldo, as he also offers an update on his injury recovery.

The England international is yet to feature for Manchester United so far this season, having opted to undergo surgery on a long-standing shoulder complaint during pre-season, after delaying the procedure to play what turned out to be a bit-part role for his country at Euro 2020.

The 23-year-old has since suggested he might have chosen not to be a part of Gareth Southgate’s squad had he known his involvement would be so minimal, having seen the likes of Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka move ahead of him in the pecking order.

While the Three Lions are currently seeking to all-but secure qualification for next year’s World Cup during the international break, Rashford is back at his club continuing his recovery as he seeks to return to action as soon as possible.

The forward endured a tough time of it last term having carried shoulder and ankle injuries throughout the season and looked notably worn out as the campaign progressed, with his continued heavy workload no doubt inhibiting his level of performance and also his England involvement.

As he nears a return to full fitness – having rejoined full contract training last week – the United academy product has admitted he is now ‘much better’ both physically and mentally, although with no date given as to when he might return to action.

“My recovery is – I wouldn’t say coming to an end because obviously I have to keep looking after it – but I’m in a much better place physically and mentally,” he told the BBC.

“Last year was a very long season for me, I got this injury at the end of September and gradually it got that little bit worse, but now I’m fully free of that, I feel much better physically and mentally.”

He will no doubt be eager to be able to get the chance to play alongside returning icon Cristiano Ronaldo in the coming weeks, with Rashford delighted to see the 36-year-old back at Old Trafford to help ‘push’ the club forward.

“That’s a great feeling for me, as a player, but also as a fan of the club as well,” said Rashford.

“It’s always nice when a club legend finds a way back to the club. To be playing with him back at Old Trafford is a terrific feeling and hopefully gives us a push to start winning more trophies.”
