Pogba ‘open’ to staying at Man Utd, but ‘taking his time’ to decide future

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is said to be ‘open’ to staying at the club, although won’t be rushed into any decision amid his current contract situation.

The Frenchman – who recently starred to help his country to success in the Nations League – has less than a year remaining on his existing deal, leaving open the possibility that he could walk away from the club for free at the end of the season for the second time, having previously done so in 2012.

Despite enjoying his best spell at the club under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, rumours continue to swirl that he is angling for a move away from Old Trafford, while his notorious agent Mino Raiola has frequently hinted at his client’s desire to leave.

Even amid the persistent speculation, the 28-year-old has started the season brightly with seven assists in the Premier League already this season and remains a vital part of Solskjaer’s squad, with the club seemingly keen to keep him for the long-term.

As perย The Athletic, Pogba is reportedly ‘open’ to staying at Manchester United, although is ‘taking his time’ over a decision that will likely impact how the remainder of his career plays out.

The report outlines how the Red Devils have offered the midfielder a ยฃ400,000-a-week contract to make him one of the highest earners in the Premier League and also the second highest-paid player at the club, with his current deal seeing him pick up ยฃ300,000-a-week.

Previous reports have suggested that the former Juventus man has been impressed by the club’s recent signings, namely Cristiano Ronaldo and compatriot Raphael Varane, with that likely a factor in helping sway him to stay.

With his deal expiring in the summer, however, and with the chance to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs from abroad from January onwards, he is no rush to make a decision just yet, with the power seemingly in his, and Raiola’s, hands.

The report adds that United may attempt to sell Pogba in the winter window if it becomes clear that he won’t sign a new deal, as it may reflect badly on the club to see their club-record signing move on for nothing.

Should he opt to depart, the likely destinations would be that of Real Madrid or a return to Turin, while Ligue 1 superpower PSG were also heavily linked with making a move prior to their capture of Lionel Messi over the summer.
