Manchester United are set to hire architects in a bid to ‘modernise’ the club’s Old Trafford stadium.
The club’s ownership has been criticised by supporters over a lack of investment in the Red Devils’ facilities, the worsening condition of the stadium having been one of a number of gripes amongst the fanbase.
Fan protests against the Glazer family – sparked in in the wake of the fall-out regarding the European Super League proposal – included calls for upgrades and the communication following those protests led to executive co-chairman, Joel Glazer, promising “significant investment and upgrades to the stadium”.
The Mail are reporting that the Red Devils will now launch a search for architects in a bid to upgrade the club’s facilities, as improvements of both Old Trafford and their Carrington training ground are financed.
The club’s aim will be to ‘modernise’ the stadium whilst preserving the ground’s history and heritage, having seen their facilities become increasingly tried and fall behind several of their Premier League rivals.
The report says that the club want to ‘revamp’ the South Stand of the famous old stadium, saying that any winning architect will have to get ‘creative’ with their ideas given the presence of an adjacent railway line which has so far prevented the club from increasing the capacity.
The search for architects comes after a £20m revamp of the stadium during the summer, including upgraded changing rooms and broadcast media facilities.
