Newcastle have joined the race to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton as the club’s new ownership prepare to invest.
Calvert-Lewin is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City having all been credited as admirers of the forward, with Newcastle now emerging as contenders for his signature following their billionaire takeover.
The England international scored 21 goals in all competitions during a career-best 2020/21 campaign and has established himself as Harry Kane’s leading centre-forward deputy at international level.
Newcastle are preparing to invest in their squad as their Saudi-backed owners seek improvements to the squad and the Telegraph are reporting that Calvert-Lewin has been identified as a potential transfer target.
The Magpies view the forward as a ‘sensible investment’ given the 24-year-old’s Premier League experience and room for further growth, with Calvert-Lewin having demonstrated remarkable improvements around goal across the past two seasons.
Calvert-Lewin began the new season with three goals in three games for Everton, but has since been sidelined through toe and thigh issues.
