Newcastle target Fonseca ‘back in the frame’ for Spurs job with Nuno under pressure

Paulo Fonseca is said to be ‘back in the frame’ to become Tottenham manager as the pressure continues to grow on Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno’s position is under threat following the North London side’s dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester United this weekend, with Spurs failing to register a single shot on target during an abject performance.

The club’s supporters voiced their displeasure with the manager whose tactics have failed to prove popular during the opening weeks of the campaign, whilst reports of unrest inside the dressing room has only added to the negativity surrounding the side.

The Mirror are reporting that Newcastle target Fonseca is now in the frame to replace Nuno, who appears on the brink after losing five of his last seven league games.

Fonseca held talks with Spurs during the summer and agreed terms on a three-year deal, before a decision was made to instead appoint Nuno.

The former Roma and Shakhtar Donestsk coach has held talks with Newcastle over the vacant role at St James’ Park, but the Magpies could now face competition from Spurs after stalling on a decision over their next head coach.

Newcastle parted company with Steve Bruce on October 20 and are currently deliberating their next appointment as the club look to bounce back from a winless start to the season.
