Klopp says Premier League quality has made ‘a big jump’ this season

Jurgen Klopp believes the quality of the Premier League has made a ‘big jump’ this season and has praised the strength of sides across the division.

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League after making an unbeaten start to the league campaign, though the Reds’ suffered a setback to their title hopes after being held to a 2-2 draw by Brighton last weekend.

Klopp’s side travel to face West Ham on Sunday and the German is expecting a difficult test against a Hammers side who have made huge progress in recent campaigns.

West Ham finished sixth last season and secured progress to the Europa League’s knockout stages in midweek, whilst David Moyes’ side are currently fourth in the Premier League and in pursuit of Champions League qualification.

Klopp believes that the improvement of sides such as the Hammers and Brighton have made the Premier League as competitive as ever, though outlined his determination to ensure Liverpool are ‘around the top of the table’ at the season’s end.

“We want to be in it. With the quality we have we should be around the top of the table.

“We don’t have to talk abut the quality of Manchester City, Chelsea, we are not too bad a team as well. There are so many other good teams in the league. I think the league made a big jump again.

“West Ham is incredibly strong, Brighton is incredibly strong. Tottenham is coming back, Arsenal are much better, United is obviously a top class team. The league is absolutely incredible. It makes it really exciting to be a part of.”

Liverpool will be without Roberto Firmino for the clash at the London Stadium after Klopp confirmed the Brazilian will miss at least a month with a hamstring injury, having been substituted during the midweek win over Atletico Madrid.
