Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is in line to replace Daniel Farke at Norwich City, following the German’s sacking on Saturday evening.
The 45-year-old was relieved of his duties following the Canaries clash with fellow newly-promoted side Brentford, albeit with the timing of the decision having come as something of a surprise as Farke saw his side pick up their first league win of the season in west London.
In truth, he had perhaps been living on borrowed time after failing to win in his last 20 top-flight games prior to that rare victory, with that record stretching back to their last Premier League campaign back in the 2019/20 season, in which they lost their ten games en route to relegation.
Having guided the club back out of the Championship at the first time of asking, Farke has since seen his side back up just five points in their opening 11 league games, leaving them five points adrift of safety and facing the very real prospect of another swift return to the second tier.
With the club now having the international break to appoint a new manager, the Sunday Times are reporting that Frank Lampard is in the frame for the role, having been out of work since departing Stamford Bridge in January.
The former England international has previously spent a solitary season in charge of Derby County in which he guided them to the Championship play-off final, before taking on the top job at Chelsea in 2019 following the sacking of Maurizio Sarri.
Tasked with steadying the ship amid a transfer ban, the Blues’ club legend guided his side to a top-four finish in his debut campaign as manager, albeit before being handed the sack halfway through the following season after an indifferent run of form, having spent over £200m in the previous summer.
The 43-year-old is believed to be the favourite to take charge at Carrow Road after his recent stint out of the game, albeit with the likes of Lucien Favre, Steve Bruce and former Chelsea teammate John Terry also reportedly in line for the role.
The report suggests that Norwich had decided to act prior to Saturday’s win against the Bees and informed Farke of his future after he had finished his post-match media duties, with the club seeking to prevent yet another relegation.
