Jose Mourinho is said to be ‘considering’ making a raid on former club Manchester United to sign Diogo Dalot during the January transfer window.
Mourinho signed during his time in charge of the Red Devils and hailed the defender as the best young full-back in Europe following his arrival from Porto, though Dalot has since failed to establish himself in the Premier League and spent last season on loan at AC Milan.
Since returning to the club last summer, the 22-year-old has struggled for opportunities amid the presence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and has made just two starts across all competitions so far this season.
The Times are reporting that Mourinho is considering a loan move for the Portugal international, as Roma seek defensive cover in the continued absence of Leonardo Spinazzola, who suffered a serious Achilles injury whilst starring for Italy at Euro 2020.
Reports this week have suggested that several of the fringe members of the Red Devils’ squad have become disillusioned with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s lack of rotation, with Dalot amongst those who have failed to command minutes despite the club’s poor recent run of form.
The opportunity to return to Serie A and reunite with Mourinho could appeal to the full-back, who will hope to earn regular first-team football and maintain his place in the Portugal squad.
