Barcelona make enquiries about Manchester United outcast, Martial

Barcelona have reportedly made an enquiry into the availability of Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial ahead of the winter transfer window.

Barcelona are considering options ahead of the January window, as the Spanish side look to increase their attacking options this winter.

Martial has emerged as a potential target for the Catalans, having struggled for form and fitness this season with the 25-year-old having made just two league starts for Manchester United so far this season.

The France international has struggled for consistency for much of his time at Old Trafford and Sport are reporting that Barcelona have made enquiries ahead of a potential deal.

Martial scored just four league goals during a disappointing 2020/21 campaign, whilst the summer arrivals for Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo have increased competition for places in forward areas.

Any transfer for Martial would likely be a loan move, however, given Barcelona’s current financial situation and the length of the star’s contract in Manchester, which runs until 2024.

Barcelona’s preferred target is believed to be Manchester City forward Ferran Torres and the Spaniards are understood to have opened negotiations with the Premier League champions over a potential deal.

Torres is currently sidelined through injury, but has impressed since arriving at the Etihad from Valencia, though the 21-year-old is said to be open to the possibility of returning to La Liga, although the finances surrounding a potential deal could ultimately prove prohibitve, with the same outlet saying Man City would demand a fee of €80m.
