Manchester City are set to ‘ramp up’ contract talks with Riyad Mahrez as the club look to secure a new deal for the winger.
Mahrez has 18 months remaining on his current contract with the Premier League champions and is keen to extend his time at the Etihad, with the club set to step up negotiation with the Algeria international in the coming weeks.
The Sun are reporting that Manchester City are keen to reach an agreement with Mahrez before January, when the winger will depart for international duty as Algeria participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Paris Saint-Germain have been tentatively linked with the signing of the 30-year-old, though there is understood to be a desire from both City and the player to agree an extension.
Mahrez signed for City in a then club-record £60m deal from Leicester in 2018 and has since scored 47 goals in 160 appearances across all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side, winning two league titles and four domestic cups.
City are also increasingly confident that Raheem Sterling will put pen to paper on a new deal, despite speculation linking the England international with a move to Barcelona.
Sterling’s current contract is another with just one full season left to run and the winger has struggled for regular opportunities in Guardiola’s side so far this season.
