Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn, as they seek a replacement for contract rebel Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman’s future continues to be a hot topic of debate with just over six months remaining on his existing deal, the current indications suggesting that he will most likely move on at the end of the season after failing to agree to an extension.
There had been reports that the 28-year-old had been impressed by the acquisition of the likes of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, although after an initial bright start to the season both he, and the club, suffered a drastic downturn in performances.
The World Cup winner is currently sidelined with injury and not set to return until the New Year, leading some to suggest he could have played his last game for the club with the midfielder able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
While it is more likely he will stay put until the end of the season before assessing his options, particularly with a new man now at the helm in Ralf Rangnick, Man United are believed to be considering possible replacements for when the former Juventus man does eventually depart.
As per the Sun, the Red Devils are keen on a move for Villa and Scotland midfielder McGinn, the club having been admirers of the player for a number of years.
The report outlines how United first showed interest in the 27-year-old back in 2019 and are keen to make that admiration more concrete in the near future, with his all-action style also likely to suit new boss Rangnick’s high press approach.
The Old Trafford outfit will face an uphill battle in trying to prize the former Hibernian man from Villa Park, however, with Steven Gerrard’s side said to value him at more than £50m, the player still having three-and-a-half years remaining on his existing deal.
Amid that interest, United have also been linked with moves for West Ham skipper Declan Rice and his England teammate and Leeds’ star Kalvin Phillips, while RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara has also been touted for a move owing to his connections to the new interim boss.
