Jurgen Klopp has backed Steven Gerrard as a future Liverpool manager and believes the former club captain will ‘definitely’ take charge at Anfield at some point.
Klopp will meet Gerrard for the first time as opposing managers this weekend, as Liverpool host Aston Villa in the Premier League tomorrow.
Gerrard has made an impressive start to his reign at Villa since leaving Rangers to take charge of the Midlands side last month, winning three of his opening four fixtures to lift the side into the Premier League’s top half.
The 41-year-old’s impressive start to his managerial career has seen Gerrard touted as a future manager of Liverpool, with the club icon having previously made no secret of his desire to one day take the reins at Anfield.
Klopp has discussed facing Gerrard this weekend and has backed the Villa boss to one day take up his current position on Merseyside.
“Yes, absolutely I think. But when is the right moment to take the job?” Klopp at his pre-match press conference.
“Stevie is doing really well, he’s very young from a manager point of view, I think it will definitely happen and it will be good for everybody.
“It’s not me who makes this kind of decisions.
“I don’t know what you have to do before to become Liverpool manager. People say you need to win things. I’m not sure about that.
“You have to to win things here, don’t think you have to win things in the past. You can win things in the past and never win anything again.”
