Liverpool ‘unlikely’ to make January move for Bowen or Raphinha

Liverpool are ‘unlikely’ to make moves to sign either Jarrod Bowen or Raphinha during the upcoming January transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp is believed to be keen to add to his attacking options and Liverpool have monitored the progress of both Bowen and Raphinha in recent months as the Reds consider Premier League options.

Bowen has enjoyed an excellent season for West Ham this term, scoring three goals and providing four assists as the fourth-place Hammers challenge for Champions League qualification under David Moyes.

The 24-year-old’s work-rate and goal threat – alongside a versatility to play across the front line – have seen him emerge as a potential target, but the Liverpool Echo are reporting that a winter window move is ‘unlikely’ at this stage.

Liverpool are set to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to Africa Cup of Nations duty next month and the Reds are being linked with bringing in reinforcements to cover the absences of their star forwards.

Raphinha is another player who has been monitored by the Reds’ recruitment team, with the Brazilian having starred since signing for Leeds from Rennes in 2020.

The 24-year-old has scored five league goals in 10 starts despite Leeds’ inconsistent form and earned his first call-up to the Brazil squad earlier this year, since scoring twice in five appearances at international level.

Liverpool’s options are set to be stretched next month, though Roberto Firmino’s return to first-team training is a welcome boost ahead of a congested period.

Diogo Jota – who trails only Salah and Jamie Vardy for Premier League goals this season – is set to play a major role during the absence of the club’s African contingent, whilst Klopp can also call on the likes of Divock Origi, Takumini Minamino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to deputise in the front three.
