Barcelona to offer Aubameyang Arsenal ‘escape’ after being stripped of captaincy

Barcelona are willing to offer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang an ‘escape’ from Arsenal after the forward was stripped of the club captaincy at the north London side.

Aubameyang’s future with the Gunners is uncertain after he was stripped of the armband, with the Gabon international removed as captain following a disciplinary breach.

The 32-year-old was also dropped from the squad for the 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend and will not be considered for Wednesday evening’s clash with West Ham in the Premier League.

The Independent are reporting that Barcelona are monitoring his situation ahead of a move next move, with the Spanish side seeking the signing of a centre-forward in January.

Barcelona are prepared to sanction the signing of a striker despite their current financial situation and have also been linked with Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani.

Ousmane Dembele has been touted as a potential makeweight in a swap deal for Aubameyang with the winger out of contract next summer and yet to agree a new deal at the Camp Nou.

The France international has been plagued with injuries since his high-profile arrival from Borussia Dortmund and the departure of Dembele could free much-needed room in the Catalan club’s wage bill.

Barcelona’s need for a forward comes with Sergio Aguero set to announce his retirement from the sport this week, following the diagnosis of a heart condition after suffering chest problems during a fixture with Alaves in October.
