Thomas Tuchel insists he sees ‘good signs’ from Chelsea despite the club’s lack of results in recent weeks.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by a depleted Everton side on Thursday evening, the third time in five fixtures that the west Londoners – four points adrift of league leaders Manchester City – have dropped points in the Premier League.
Tuchel’s spoke on his disappointment at Chelsea’s inability to hold onto leads in recent fixtures following the draw with Everton, but speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Wolves says he continues to see ‘good signs’ from the European champions.
“We were very disappointed with the result,” he told his pre-match press conference. “We are trying hard not to accept the result when analysing the match and performance because it is a clear win for us, but obviously, it is not. Because we want to have the proof of our performances in results.
“It is easy to doubt, be emotional and let disappointment take over but at the same time we have to accept we played a very good match of football and got punished.
“It happens in the moment but I agree there are good signs and good behaviours.”
The clash with Wolves sees Tuchel take on his first opponents as Chelsea manager, having overseen a goalless draw between the sides at Stamford Bridge in January.
The German discussed his time at Chelsea since that first meeting with Wolves, including guiding the Blues to Champions League success last season.
“A lot of things have happened since then. Of course, we had a big achievement in terms of a trophy but it is always living the moment, pushing the moment. To feel valued and that we are part of this club, it is what makes me happy.
“It is nice we have some victories under our belt and even a big title but it is not the moment to reflect. We are in the middle of brushing the Everton result off our shoulders.”
The blues boss is, however, expecting a tough game against Bruno Lage’s side.
“It is a tough one, hard to create chances against them, break their defensive line and we have to be careful of their speed and individual quality.
“They had a rough start and then recovered. They are very disciplined, a clear structure and very hard to break down. Very hard to create chances so a big task for us and we will focus on it from tomorrow. We need to be well prepared. They had very good performance’s lost to a late goal against Liverpool and had a deserved win at Brighton.”
