Nketiah admits he’s ‘desperate’ to play football after hat-trick send Arsenal to semi-finals

Eddie Nketiah admits he is ‘desperate’ to play football after scoring a hat-trick to send Arsenal into the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Nketiah took his total to five goals in just three Carabao Cup appearances this season after netting a treble in Arsenal’s 5-1 win over Sunderland at the Emirates, with further goals from Nicolas Pepe and teenage debutant Charlie Patino booking the Gunners’ place in the last four.

Nketiah has struggled for opportunities this season and has made just three brief substitute appearances in the Premier League, the forward out of contract at the end of the season and expected to depart in search of regular first-team football.

The 22-year-old admits he is ‘desperate’ for regular opportunities and says his future ‘will sort itself out’, though says he will continue to give his all for Arsenal whilst he remains with the north Londoners.

“I’m desperate to play football, every player wants to play. All I can do is keep working hard. It will sort itself out, hopefully I get opportunities.

“I’m eager to play football, I’m here under contract and as long as I play for Arsenal I will give it my all. If the manager needs me I will be ready to help the team.

“This competition is where I have been getting starts, whenever I’m asked to play I will do my best and help the team. I’m ready when the manager needs me.”
