Conte: Tottenham ‘working hard’ to improve

Antonio Conte says Tottenham are ‘working hard’ to improve following a recent upturn in results for the north Londoners.

Spurs are unbeaten in five Premier League fixtures since Conte’s arrival as manager last month, whilst the club are also through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals after beating West Ham in midweek.

There has been encouraging signs from the side as Conte begins to implement his methods and, speaking ahead of the club’s Boxing Day clash with Crystal Palace, the Italian says both he and his players are working hard to improve as Spurs push for a top-four finish.

“I always said to improve the level of the Tottenham team, I have to improve the level of every single player,” Conte said at his pre-match press conference.

“The only way I know is to work, to work with my players and to improve my players. I don’t complain about situations that could be positive or negative but when I spoke, I said something and it was my opinion. But at same time, we are working, we are working very well and working every day in hard way to try to improve every single play because this is the only way to improve the level of Tottenham.”

Conte also spoke on this weekend’s opponents in Crystal Palace, who have made a solid start under the guidance of new manager Patrick Vieira.

The Spurs boss says he is unsurprised to see Vieira succeeding at Selhurst Park, believing the Frenchman’s playing career has provided a platform for his move into management.

“I’m not surprised,” he said. “Patrick Vieira was a fantastic midfielder and usually when you are a midfielder you have more possibility to become manager. For the position during game you see both situations offensively and defensively.”
