Conte says January transfer window is not the ‘resolution’ to Spurs’ ‘problems’

Antonio Conte says the January transfer window is not the ‘resolution’ to Tottenham’s ‘problems’ this season.

Spurs have made an unbeaten league start since Conte’s arrival as head coach in November, but suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday evening.

The club’s performance was a reality check of their current standing with Chelsea far superior at Stamford Bridge, with Conte’s squad one in desperate need of reinforcements with the transfer window open for business this month.

The north Londoners have been expected to invest in the January as Conte looks to shape the squad in his own image, but the Italian has warned that potential signings are not necessarily the ‘resolution’ to his club’s current issues.

“We have to continue to work hard in the way we’re doing and improve the level of our players,” said Conte.

“Then, if there are some opportunities and the club is convinced by these opportunities to improve the team… but I don’t see, in the transfer window, the resolution of our problems.

“The resolution of our problems is to work and improve many aspects of our squad. I repeat: there is a big job to do.

“If you think that buying one or two players will solve the situation, you are not right.”

Tottenham next host third-tier Morecambe in the FA Cup’s third round this weekend, before the return leg with Chelsea on January 12.
