Martial still the ‘priority’ for Sevilla

Anthony Martial remains the ‘priority’ for Sevilla during the January transfer window as the Spanish side look to sign a centre-forward this month.

Sevilla are keen to sign Martial on a loan deal from Manchester United, with the 25-year-old having expressed a desire to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football.

Ralf Rangnick suggested the unsettled star refused to be in the squad for last weekend’s draw with Aston Villa last weekend, a claim Martial then refuted on social media. The dispute between the two has since been settled and Martial returned to the substitutes bench against Brentford in midweek.

So far, United are demanding a loan fee and the wages of the France international to be paid in full, a request that has not yet been met by Sevilla or other suitors, with both Juventus and Barcelona having also been linked.

Marca are reporting that Martial remains Sevilla’s top target this month and negotiations are continuing between the two clubs, but the La Liga side are considering Moussa Dembele as a potential alternative should United not lower their demands.

Dembele spent the second half of last season on loan at Atletico Madrid and failed to make an impression, but has began the new season in impressive form for Lyon with five goals from nine league starts – despite a fibula injury seeing him sidelined for an extended spell.

Dembele has score 49 goals in 114 appearances for Lyon since arriving from Celtic in a £19.7m deal in 2018.
