Manchester United are reported to be considering offering Ralf Rangnick a permanent role as manager after being ‘impressed’ with his interim spell in charge.
United appointed Rangnick on an interim basis following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskkjaer, with the German having won five of his eight fixtures in charge across all competitions, losing just once.
The 63-year-old guided the Red Devils into the Premier League’s top four with a 1-0 win over West Ham last time out and the Sun are reporting that the club are considering changing their initial plan to move Rangnick into a consultatory position at the end of the season.
The report says United have been ‘impressed’ with how Rangnick has ‘steadied the ship’ despite a ‘troubled backdrop’ and whilst performances have not convinced, there is intrigue to see how the former RB Leipzig coach fares over the remainder of the campaign.
His handling of a potential issue involving Cristiano Ronaldo has also been noted, after the forward visibly showed his annoyance after being substituted at Brentford this month.
Rangnick’s interim reign has now seen him emerge as a contender for the permanent position with the Red Devils’ defensive improvement having also been noticeable since his arrival.
United have compiled a list of potential candidates as they plan for next season, a shortlist that is believed to include Mauricio Pochettino, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers.
