Tottenham’s move for Adama Traore is ‘off’ with Barcelona now in talks over a deal to sign the winger from Wolves.
Spurs had been in negotiations with Wolves over a deal to sign Traore before Monday’s deadline, with discussions between the sides have progressed well.
However, The Athletic are reporting that the 26-year-old had reservations about being utilised at right wing-back by Antonio Conte, and the proposed move to North London appears to be over.
Traore has less than 18 months remaining on his contract at Molineux and has no plans to sign an extension, with Barcelona now hopeful of finding an agreement to sign the Spain international on an initial loan deal.
Traore began his career in the ranks at Barcelona before moving to English football and the Catalan club are seeking an initial loan deal with an option to buy the winger for a fee in the region of €35m.
Spurs had seen an opening bid of £15m rejected for Traore earlier in the window and will now move on to alternative targets as Antonio Conte looks for additions before the deadline.
Conte is keen to add a midfielder and a winger to his squad in the coming days and the club have been linked with Porto’s Luis Diaz and Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.
