Chelsea make a move for Ousmane Dembele, but deadline day transfer ‘difficult’

Chelsea have reportedly made a deadline day move to sign Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

The winger has just six months remaining on his contract at the Camp Nou, and has failed to come to an agreement over a new deal, with Barcelona having instructed him in no uncertain terms that he should find a new club immediately.

PSG were linked with a move for Dembele on Sunday, though a potential deal stalled with Barcelona not interested in any of the players that the French side were offering in return, the Ligue 1 leaders needing to offload players to remain within FFP regulations.

The breakdown of that deal has piqued Chelsea’s interest, and according to Sky Sports, they have now ‘made enquiries’ into getting a deal done before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

While the deal is said to be ‘not impossible’, the report does concede that it is going to be ‘difficult’ given the lack of time available as well as Dembele’s wages demands.

Should a deal ultimately not be concluded, Chelsea could move to make to sign him on a pre-contract agreement before he joins the club next summer.

There will be concerns about his injury record since joining Barcelona, though Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel knows what Dembele is all about, the pair working together during their respective time at Borussia Dortmund, with the forward netting 10 goals and providing 21 assists in all competitions under the German during the 2016/17 season.
