Moyes urges patience after ‘ambitious’ West Ham failed to make January signings

David Moyes has urged for patience at West Ham after the club failed to bring in new signings during the January transfer window.

West Ham were expected to do business during the winter window as the Hammers look to reinforce their squad ahead of a push for a top-four finish, but failed to bring in recruits during a frustrating period in the market.

Moyes has been linked with adding a centre-forward and centre-back to his options, with the East London side looking to compete on multiple fronts across the second half of the season.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Kidderminster on Saturday, Moyes has discussed what proved to be a ‘difficult January window’ and has urged for patience regarding the club’s ‘ambitious’ project.

“I think there have been nine clubs in the January window who didn’t bring any players in. For some reason, it’s been a much more difficult January window than possibly others,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“We wanted to add to the squad if we could do, but unfortunately we just couldn’t quite get them it over the line.

“We did [get close to deals] but for different reasons it didn’t quite happen.

“I’d never tell you my targets because that would be wrong, but what I do want to do is be ambitious here at West Ham, bring in good players and add to the really good squad we’ve got at the moment.

“Sometimes, getting things you actually want, you have to wait a little bit longer. I think it was quite obvious as nine clubs didn’t do any business in January.”
