Pep Guardiola has refused to discuss his future at Manchester City amid rumours he is close to agreeing a contract extension at the Etihad.
Guardiola’s future has been a subject of debate in recent months with the Spaniard having entered the final 18 months of his deal at the club, with no announcement having been forthcoming over a potential extension.
The 51-year-old is in his sixth season in charge of Manchester City and has enjoyed huge success, winning three Premier League titles amongst his list of honours in English football.
His reign has already been longer than previous spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, though there is hope Guardiola will continue beyond 2023.
Speaking ahead of City’s clash with Brentford in the Premier League tomorrow evening, Guardiola refused to discuss the possibility of penning a new deal, saying his future is dependent on whether the club continues to secure results.
“We won a lot and are winning a lot, otherwise I would not be in front of you after six seasons,” he said at his pre-match press conference.
“Many people convinced me to come here but after one, two, three, four, five seasons it depends on results.
“I still have one-and-a-half years left on my contract, it is a lot of time in world football. See how managers were sacked this season, not just in England but in the world.”
