Klopp plays down Liverpool title chances

Jurgen Klopp has played down Liverpool’s title chances following the club’s 2-0 win over Leicester on Thursday evening.

Liverpool secured a third consecutive Premier League win after beating the Foxes at Anfield, with Diogo Jota scoring both goals in a comfortable win for Klopp’s side.

The result moves Liverpool within nine points of league leaders Manchester City, whilst the Reds also possess a game in hand on the defending champions.

Klopp has downplayed talk regarding the title, however, but says his side must continue to earn results as they bid to finish the season strongly.

“I don’t think they smell our breath already! But we just try to win football matches – this is a massive club and every match we put our shirts on, we have to win it,” Klopp told BT Sport following the win over Leicester.

“I am not sure we are in a position to put them on their toes. But even if we have no chance to catch them, we have to win our games. We showed that against Leicester – we showed we are not allowed to take anything for granted.”

Liverpool next travel to face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday, before meeting Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on February 16.
