Ralf Rangnick has revealed he had no idea about Manchester United’s rivalry with Leeds, as the club prepare to travel to Elland Road this weekend.
United travel across the Pennines to face their northern rivals in the Premier League on Sunday, the latest instalment of a fierce rivalry between the two teams.
Leeds will welcome the Red Devils to a capacity crowd Elland Road for a Premier League fixture the first time since 2003, in what is sure to be a raucous atmosphere.
Marcelo Bielsa has spoken on his excitement at the atmosphere that awaits this weekend, though Rangnick has confessed he knew little of the rivalry between the teams until recently.
The German, however, is confident his side have the experience to handle the occasion and says the Red Devils are ‘looking forward’ to renewing rivalries with Leeds.
“I didn’t know that a week ago – one of my colleagues has told me this is one of the biggest ones,” Rangnick told his pre-match press conference.
“We had quite a few local derbies in Germany – our side though has so much experience playing against sides in this environment and as far as I know it’s the first game in a full stadium at Elland Road since they were last in the Premier League.
“We are looking forward to it.”
