Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino ahead of Liverpool’ clash with Leeds and the EFL Cup final this weekend.
Liverpool host Leeds in the Premier League tomorrow evening, before taking on Chelsea in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final as the two sides compete for English football’s first major silverware of the season.
The Reds’ attacking options have been reduced following injuries to Jota and Firmino, however, with Klopp confirming that both forwards will definitely miss the visit of Leeds to Anfield.
The absence of the duo leaves Liverpool short of cover at centre-forward, Jota the club’s second-highest scorer this season with 17 goals in all competitions.
Sadio Mane started as a central forward during the win over Norwich on Saturday, with January signing Luis Diaz also recalled to the starting XI.
Klopp revealed that neither player has been fit to train with Liverpool this week and admitted both are serious doubts for the weekend’s clash with Chelsea at Wembley.
“For tomorrow no chance and for the final we will see. I don’t know at the moment,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
“It will be easier for me to say no now but they are pushing.
“They’re not on the pitch for training which is not a good sign.
“We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we’ll make a decision later in the week.”
