Arsenal to offer Arteta new contract as rebuild continues

Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Mikel Arteta an extension to his contract as the club continue their rebuild under the Spaniard.

Arteta’s current contract is set to expire in 2023 and the Gunners are ready to reward the 39-year-old with an improved deal, following a season of progression at the Emirates this term.

Arteta will receive a significant increase on his wages at Arsenal to around £8.3m per season, with his current salary of £5m a fraction of the wages being earned by the likes of Pep Guardiola (£20m), Jurgen Klopp (£15m) and Antonio Conte (£15m) at the top end of the Premier League.

The Sun are reporting that owner Stan Kroenke will place his faith in the manager and is prepared to invest in the side, after Arteta oversaw a mass clear-out and rebuild that has removed around £90m from the Gunners’ wage bill.

Kroenke kept faith with Arteta despite the club’s worst ever start to a Premier League season, with Arsenal having been bottom of the division after losing their opening three games without scoring a goal.

Since then the Gunners have moved into contention for a top four finish and are sixth at present, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with three games in hand on the Red Devils.

Having sanctioned a significant spend last summer, Kroenke will have been pleased with how new additions in Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale have settled, joining an exciting core of young talent that includes academy graduates Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe.
