Liverpool appear to have been handed a boost with Diogo Jota ‘on track’ to recover from an ankle injury in time for the Carabao Cup final.
Jota was substituted at half-time of Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Inter Milan in the Champions League, with the forward later pictured wearing a protective boot.
The Portugal international has since missed wins over Norwich and Leeds, but the Mail are reporting that there is optimism that Jota could return for Sunday’s EFL Cup showpiece with Chelsea at Wembley.
Initial scans eased concerns over a long-term issue for the 25-year-old, who is ‘on track’ to feature against the west Londoners this weekend.
Jota’s availability would be a major boost to Jurgen Klopp as he looks to secure the first major silverware of the English football season, with Jota having scored 17 goals in all competitions during an impressive season season at Anfield.
The forward scored both goals in the semi-final second leg win at Arsenal and could return at centre-forward with Sadio Mane having deputised in an unfamiliar central role in recent fixtures.
The probability is that Jota will be named among the substitutes against Chelsea, should he come through training sessions on Friday and Saturday without issue.
