‘Getting closer’ – Barca looking to win the race to sign Franck Kessie on free transfer

Barcelona are ‘getting closer’ to the signing of Franck Kessie from AC Milan on a free transfer.

Kessie has been a target for several leading clubs across Europe as the midfielder enters the final months of his contract at the San Siro, with Barcelona now winning the race to sign the Ivory Coast international.

Sport are reporting that the Spanish side have intensified negotiations with Kessie’s representatives, as the Catalans look to conclude a deal to bring the 25-year-old to the Camp Nou.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham had all previously been linked with a deal, whilst the reports says that both Arsenal and Everton have failed to convince Kessie to move to the Premier League.

The move will represent a significant coup for Barcelona as the club look to rebuild despite their financial issues, with Kessie having been a key figure across his five seasons with AC Milan.

The midfielder has made 211 appearances in all competitions since arriving from Atalanta and has scored 38 goals, including a career-best 13 league goals in Serie A last season.
