Jurgen Klopp says he is looking to extend David Moyes’ miserable record at Anfield, though said his side must be much better than the two side’s previous meeting.
West Ham travel to Anfield on Saturday evening as they hope to bolster their Champions League hopes, though will come up against a Liverpool side who have won all of their last 11 games in all competitions.
West Ham have seen their form falter in recent weeks, winning just two of their last six Premier League matches, while manager David Moyes is yet to taste victory in any of his previous 17 trips to Anfield (7 draws, 10 losses) in his roles at Everton, Manchester United, Sunderland and now with the Hammers.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his opposite number, though he is hoping to extend the Scot’s miserable record.
“Long may it continue. I am sure he was close [to a win] a few times since I was here,” he told the media at his pre-match press conference.
“I am really pleased for David he’s a nice colleague. After all the things in the past after a successful spell at Everton, and now being himself again at West Ham and making smart transfers. They’re a strong side.”
West Ham will take hope from their previous meeting with Liverpool, running out 3-2 winners at London Stadium back in November.
Klopp says his side will need to be better than they were on that day, admitting his side weren’t themselves and made it too easy for West Ham to score.
“In the game at West Ham we weren’t ourselves, at least not 100%, which is what you should be,” said Klopp.
“You should make it more difficult for the other team to score than we did that day.
“We have to be better than the first game.”
