Tuchel delivers positive squad update ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley

Thomas Tuchel has delivered a positive update on the state of his squad ahead of the club’s trip to face Burnley.

Chelsea suffered defeat in last weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, a game which saw Reece James make his return to action following an injury to Cesar Azpilicueta.

Tuchel then sent out a rotated side for their midweek FA Cup victory over Luton Town, and speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Turf Moor, the German confirmed that while the game will come too soon for Azpilicueta, his side have suffered not fresh injuries this week.

“No fresh injuries but I still have to talk to the fitness coaches and doctors,” he told a press conference.

“Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta) wasn’t training yesterday so this will be too close. Hakim (Ziyech) was in training, seemed good so hopefully he can come back.

“Reece (James) did training yesterday and no reactions after his two matches.

“The guys who were not with us at Luton because of minor injuries like Trevoh (Chalobah) and Thiago (Silva) were back in training yesterday and seemed fine and good to go.”

Chelsea are currently five points clear of fifth placed West ham and have two games in hand over the Hammers as they look to solidify their place in the top four positions.

As for Burnley, they are also in need of the points, the Clarets currently in the bottom three following their 2-0 loss to Leicester in midweek.
