Jurgen Klopp has once again reiterated that he is planning to bringing an end to his stay at Liverpool in two years time.
The German is one of the longest serving managers in the Premier League at the moment, having taken over at Anfield following the departure of Brendan Rodgers back in October 2015.
After what was a slow and steady start to his time in the Premier League, Klopp has undoubtedly cemented his place as one of the greatest managers in the divisions history, transforming Liverpool from mere top four hopefuls into regular title challengers, finally bring an end to the club’s 30 year title drought in 2019/20.
He has also added a sixth European Cup to their trophy room, while he collected a League Cup winners medal last weekend as the club maintain in the hunt for an unprecedented quadruple this season.
However, the 54-year-old has always been reluctant to commit himself to a new deal with the Merseyside outfit, and has again reiterated his plan of calling time on his reign when his current contract comes to an end in 2024.
“The plan at the moment is to get to 2024 and then, ‘Thank you very much’,” Klopp said at a press conference on Friday.
Asked what would influence his decision, he said: “If I have the energy level for it. I love what I do, but I said a couple of times that there must be something else out there in the world, apart from always thinking about very skilled, good-looking, fantastically nice football players!
“At the moment I am full of energy but we have to make sure that remains the case. You don’t want to be sitting around tired more often than not thinking, ‘Wow, why is everyone bothered about things out there? I couldn’t care less’.”
Klopp’s departure would be a big blow to the club, but the former Dortmund boss believed a thy the club will be well placed for continued success after his ultimate exit.
“When I speak about ‘The plan’, I speak about the club. My future will be OK, I don’t have to plan that,” he added.
“I can book it last minute if I say it like this! ‘The plan’ is the future of the club.
“We are constantly working so that everything is in place. That is not for me or for our generation, it is for a long, long time. We tried to improve so many things over the years.
“It’s just doing the right things, getting the right people, putting them in the right positions. That doesn’t mean you win the title, it just means you have the right people for the right job, so use them. That’s what we try. The plan is that things will be good, things will be fine after I leave.”
