Frank Lampard is ‘confident’ he can save Everton from relegation despite the club’s 5-0 hammering at Tottenham on Monday night.
Everton are now just one point above the Premier League’s bottom three following a humiliating night in north London, with Harry Kane scoring twice as Spurs ran riot to secure an emphatic win.
Defeat was Everton’s third in succession and seventh in eight Premier League fixtures, form which has raised fears that the Toffees could drop into the Championship.
The loss was Lampard’s heaviest defeat as a manager and leaves Everton with 22 points, their lowest ever total at this stage of a top-flight season.
Lampard admits his side’s sorry showing at Spurs ‘wasn’t good enough’ and admitted there is no ‘magic wand’ to fix the club’s issues, but insisted he remains confident that he can turn around Everton’s fortunes and ensure Premier League survival this season.
“I am confident but that doesn’t mean anything,” he told Sky Sports. “I didn’t walk into the building with a magic wand. I am absolutely confident, that is why I am here.
“The feeling at this club when I came here was we could be going down. It was clear around the city, it was up to me to change that and I thought we had changed that. But this is a test of that.
“Individual errors led to goals which took the game away from us and the reaction was not good enough. It was the reaction of a team used to losing away from home. We need to sort it out.
“We have to hold our hands up to them (the fans) and say it wasn’t good enough.
“I have no fear of what is ahead, I can’t wait for the next two games at Goodison. I will be ready for them and the players will be ready, they have to be.”
