PSG join Man Utd and Chelsea in bid to sign Barcelona’s Araujo

Paris Saint-Germain have joined Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

The trio are monitoring developments between the defender and Barcelona, with contract talks having proven complicated as the Spanish side look to secure an extension.

Araujo’s current contract expires in 2023 and Barcelona are determined to reach an agreement over a new deal, though Catalan outlet Sport say there has been little progress since January.

They say that the defender has ‘offers on the table’ from Manchester United and Chelsea, while Paris Saint-Germain are the latest club to express an interest in the 22-year-old and Barcelona could be forced into a summer sale should new contract terms not be agreed.

PSG strengthened their centre-back options with the signing of Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid last summer, but the veteran has endured a frustrating first season with injuries and has been linked with an exit to the MLS.

Araujo is said to be seeking parity with recent renewals including Pedri and Ansu Fati, having emerged as a central figure in the side this season.

Barcelona’s most recent offer is believed to have equated to around €3m-per-season, a figure which would leave the defender among the lowest earners at the Camp Nou.

Araujo has made 29 appearances for the Catalans this season, scoring three goals, and has won seven caps for Uruguay since making his international debut in 2020.

The report says United, Chelsea and PSG are all willing to pay a transfer fee in the summer, or wait to sign him on a free in 2023.
