Barcelona ‘express their interest’ in Rashford with Liverpool also ‘admirers’

Barcelona have ‘expressed their interest’ in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United, with Liverpool also named as ‘admirers’ of the unsettled forward.

Rashford is understood to be considering his future at Manchester United after a frustrating season, the 24-year-old having started just nine league fixtures as he has struggled to command an automatic role in the side.

He was a notable omission from the starting side for the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City this month, being named on the bench despite the absences of Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

The Manchester Evening News are reporting that Barcelona have moved to let their interest known, contacting Rashford’s representatives to discuss a potential move.

Liverpool are also reported to have made it known they are admirers of the England international, though no player has moved directly between the rivals clubs since 1964.

The prospect of Rashford – a boyhood fan of the Red Devils and academy graduate – moving to Merseyside appears highly unlikely.

Rashford will have just a year remaining on his contract this summer and much could hinge on developments regarding a new permanent manager, with the report saying that ‘deep down’, the forward ‘does not want to leave’.

He has failed to win the trust of Ralf Rangnick during the German’s interim spell and has started just three of the last 11 league fixtures.

Rashford – who has also been linked with PSG – has struggled for form since returning from a shoulder operation after his role in England’s Euro 2020 campaign last summer.
