The UEFA Champions League’s quarter-final draw has been made with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all learning their last eight opponents.
Manchester City are the favourites to win a maiden Champions League trophy this season after a runners-up finish in 2021, and the Premier League champions will meet Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Atletico will face their third Premier League side in this season’s competition, having met Liverpool in the group stage before beating Manchester United in the last-16.
Liverpool – winners under Jurgen Klopp in 2019 – will face Benfica, whilst holders Chelsea’s bid to become just the second team to defend the trophy will continue against Real Madrid.
The west Londoners met Real Madrid in the semi-finals of last season’s competition, winning 3-1 on aggregate. The Spanish side are currently under the management of former Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti.
In the quarter-final’s other clash, Europa League winners Villarreal will take on Bayern Munich.
Champions League quarter-final draw:
- Chelsea v Real Madrid
- Manchester City v Atletico Madrid
- Villarreal v Bayern Munich
- Benfica v Liverpool
The draw for the semi-finals has also been made and the winners of Manchester City and Atletico Madrid will meet either Chelsea or Real Madrid in the last four.
