Arsenal hold ‘initial conversation’ over new Saka contact

Arsenal have held an ‘initial conversation’ with Bukayo Saka’s representatives over an improved deal for the winger.

The North Londoners are keen to secure the long-term future of the 20-year-old and are prepared to hand Saka improved terms to reflect his increasing status as a key figure at the Emirates.

Saka has enjoyed an impressive individual campaign and is Arsenal’s joint-leading scorer in all competitions with 10 goals, whilst he has also provided five assists with no u21 player having been involved in more goals across the Premier League.

The Athletic are reporting that Arsenal are determined to secure Saka’s future with a new deal and talks have began over an extension, with the England international’s current deal running until 2024.

Saka has already amassed 121 appearances for the Gunners since breaking into the side as a teenager and has earned 14 caps for England at senior level, forming part of the side that reached the final of the delayed Euro 2020 last summer.

He has grown in importance at Arsenal this season and is a crucial figure in Mikel Arteta’s rebuild of the side, with the club currently fourth in the Premier League and in pursuit of Champions League qualification for the first time since 2016/17.
