Bruno Fernandes is ‘close’ to signing a new contract at Manchester United as the club look to secure the long-term future of the midfielder.
United have been in negotiations with Fernandes over a five-year deal that will double his wage to around £240,000-a-week, with the Red Devils keen to reward the 27-year-old following his impact since arriving at Old Trafford.
Fernandes’ first full season with the club saw him set a Premier League record for a midfielder with 28 goals in all competitions and he has provided 60 goal involvements in 78 league appearances since signing from Sporting Lisbon.
United had been keen to renew his deal just months after his initial arrival, with Fernandes’ current contract worth considerably less from several members of Ralf Rangnick’s squad.
The Athletic are reporting that an agreement is now close between Fernandes and the club and his new contract will move the Portugal international closer towards the Red Devils’ highest earners.
Fernandes has made 37 appearances for United in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals and providing 14 assists.
