Liverpool cult hero Origi ‘close’ to reaching agreement to leave

Divock Origi is ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with AC Milan as the forward prepares to leave Liverpool this summer.

Origi is out of contract at the end of the season and has been free to negotiate with foreign sides from January, with the 26-year-old having held discussions with AC Milan over a move to Italy.

Origi has struggled for regular first-team football at Liverpool and has made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, having fallen further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in recent transfer windows.

The Mail are reporting that Liverpool have the option to extend his deal should he make a certain number of starts this season, but that appears unlikely given his fringe role under Jurgen Klopp this season.

AC Milan are now ‘close’ to reaching an agreement to sign Origi on a free transfer, who will leave Liverpool as a cult figure despite his struggle to command a regular role in the side since arriving from Lille in 2014.

The forward has scored several crucial goals during his time on Merseyside, including a strong derby record against Everton and vital contributions in the semi-finals and final as Liverpool won the Champions League in 2018/19.
